Simba's Homepage

(HodariRafiki Simba)

Simba is well and enjoying life in the tropics. He has lots of male playmates - Greg, Aaron and Sean, and they give him the 'rough' play while I am the gentle play. Simba enjoys being outdoors and finds lots of leaves and sticks to play with.

Simba had his first taste of the pool yesterday when Aaron and Sean were in swimming. He was a natural and started his puppy crawl style with ease. He has a heavy back end and kept sinking but Sean had him supported at all times. He finds it cooler to stretch out on the quarry tiles in the house so for the moment, he is a house pet. He will find he is not welcome on the carpets though. We have bean bags in the lounge room and they are quite interesting to him. He stretches out on them at times when he is napping. After a while though they must become too hot and he moves back onto the tiles.

The boys take turns to attend to Simba during the night when he cries. I think they wait for the opportunity personally. It is not unusual to find Simba very cosy in Sean's bed in the morning. However, as it cools at night, I am sure Simba will settle into his sleeping pattern. It is still 20c at night here - a bit hot for Simba I think.

Week 11 Pictures

Simaba is learning to jump. He has discovered that his back legs have power and is leaping at every opportunity. We are very happy with Simba and his progress. He is intelligent and responds well to commands. He is spending more time being independent and wanders around the yard at his leisure. He scratches at the door when he wants to be outside. He is intrigued by the pool and is very comfortable walking around in that area. The photos will tell the story. Simba has been taugh how to get out of the pool by himself so there is no danger of him falling in and drowning when he is unatended.

Simba is confident around water! Is't he looking great!
He has already had a swim

Week 12

Simba had his 12 week injection and was perfectly behaved. The vet was really impressed with his coat, it is so soft and shiny. His weight is now 13.2 kg, weighed on wednesday on the vet's scales. He is growing so fast. His body is twice the length it was when he first arrived. His lead training is going well. He walked into the vets on his lead with such confidence, we were really impressed. He enjoys traveling in the car and sits up as tall as he can to look out of the window. The weather is turning cool at night and Simba is sleeping in until 8 or sometimes 9 in the morning. It's a dog's life!!! Luckily, our days are still 27C and nights 15C. The tropics are great in the winter months but too hot from November until April.
